Gris Charnel
Gris Charnel opens with cardamom, fig, and black tea in a combination that is simultaneously warm, vegetal, and slightly smoky: the fig's green sweetness against the cardamom's spice and the black tea's tannin giving the opening a complexity that David Benedek builds on throughout the composition. Iris in the heart is the cool counterpoint, and Bourbon vetiver the earthy one, the two materials giving the warm opening a grounding before sandalwood and tonka bean resolve the whole accord into a warm, lasting close. Grey as a color, not as a quality.
Why We Carry This
The fig-black tea opening in Gris Charnel is the compositional choice that makes BDK Parfums immediately interesting to anyone familiar with the fragrance market: unusual, specific, and handled with genuine craft. The iris-vetiver heart gives the unconventional opening a classical grounding, and the sandalwood-tonka base makes the whole composition last. One of the best debut compositions in recent niche fragrance.
