Benedek's addition to the BDK range reframes vanilla through unusual companions: calamus, peru balsam, and labdanum all adding dimensions to the central note that typical vanilla fragrances avoid. The result is a vanilla composition that rewards fragrance literacy rather than demanding it.

Vanille Caviar opens with calamus and cassis, the former an unusual reed-like aromatic and the latter a dark fruit, the combination giving the opening a complexity that a simple vanilla launch would lack. Osmanthus and cacao in the heart add a fruity-floral-chocolate depth before the vanilla base takes over with the warmth the opening has been preparing. Peru balsam and labdanum deepen the vanilla into something resinous and slightly medicinal, giving Vanille Caviar a darkness that the name hints at. Caviar, not cream: the finish has an edge.
