The Moon
The Moon is a composition about what happens when the iris-violet register is stripped of everything decorative. Bertrand Duchaufour's construction uses heliotrope and benzoin to warm the powdery accord just enough to make it feel inhabited rather than cold, the violet and iris combining with a depth that goes beyond their usual cosmetic-powder quality. Sandalwood and ambergris in the base give the composition a warmth that pulls slowly over the hours of wear, the fragrance becoming increasingly intimate as it settles. Still, silver, unhurried.
Why We Carry This
The Moon demonstrates Duchaufour's exceptional understanding of the iris-heliotrope relationship: the benzoin keeps the powdery accord from becoming cold or abstract, and the ambergris base gives the composition the warmth that its pale materials only hint at. A genuinely unusual Frederic Malle release.
