Les Absolus d'Orient Épices Exquises
Thierry Wasser built Epices Exquises as a study in the temperature of spice. Cardamom and pink pepper open with a coolness that is almost minty, the contrast to the warmth of the black pepper arriving in the heart immediately perceptible. Coffee in the mid-stage amplifies the warmth without adding sweetness, and angelica bridges the cool-spice opening to the deeper, resinous base. Sandalwood, oud, and patchouli in the base give the composition a depth proportional to its ambition: this is a Guerlain oriental that earns its position in the Les Absolus d'Orient range rather than simply occupying it.
Why We Carry This
Wasser's contrast between cool spice and warm spice in a single formula is the conceptual achievement in Epices Exquises. The coffee-in-the-heart move gives the composition a richness that the opening does not promise, and the oud-patchouli base makes the drydown genuinely complex. A Guerlain that rewards attention.
