Black Phanton
Dark chocolate and rum arrive simultaneously, dense and slightly boozy, the opening reading almost like something that should be sipped rather than worn. Sidonie Lancesseur keeps the sugar and caramel working in the background where they belong, adding roundness rather than outright sweetness. Vetiver and sandalwood pull the composition toward the earthy end of the base, which prevents the chocolate-rum accord from becoming cloying. Heliotrope adds something faintly floral and powdery in the drydown. This wears like a very good evening.
Why We Carry This
Kilian's Black Phantom hit a particular nerve in the market and has maintained its reputation since 2017 because the composition genuinely delivers what it promises. The chocolate-rum accord is handled with more skill than the concept suggests: it's indulgent without being one-dimensional. We carry it because it consistently converts first-time smellers into buyers.
