Black tea in a fragrance is usually treated as a background note. In The Noir 29 it is the opening material, and Bugey lets it be itself: slightly astringent, tannin-forward, bergamot keeping the sharpness from becoming harsh. Fig adds a green, milky softness before the smoke and laurel heart takes the composition into much darker territory. Tobacco in the base deepens the smoke, vetiver adding an earthy dryness, amber giving the whole drydown a warmth that prevents the smokiness from reading as cold. Dark and specific, not for everyone, exactly right for those it suits.
