Caramel in the opening of Ylang in Gold is a statement of intent: this composition is unabashedly warm and sweet, rose and bergamot giving the caramel brightness and lift before ylang-ylang takes the heart. At M. Micallef's material quality, ylang-ylang does not read as heady or clinical; it reads as tropical, creamy, and full, coconut amplifying that quality while jasmine and orange blossom give the heart a floral depth. Vanilla and sandalwood in the base are the expected resolution, warm and lasting.

Ylang in Gold is the M. Micallef release that makes the clearest case for the house's material quality: at lesser concentrations, ylang-ylang at this level either dominates or disappears.
