Madurai's jasmine market is one of the world's largest, and Massenet takes that jasmine seriously: the heart here is built around it, incense and labdanum giving it a resinous, smoky backdrop that references temple ritual more than a garden. Pink pepper in the opening adds a gentle heat that the cardamom carries deeper, and rose gives the jasmine a fuller floral register. The sandalwood and amber base develops slowly and warmly, vanilla arriving last to round the finish into something smooth and lasting.
