Beast Love
The name earns some scrutiny, but the fragrance beneath it is well-constructed. Black pepper and bergamot open with real bite, cardamom adding spice depth before the rose heart arrives, darker than most Montale roses because the leather note is already present alongside it. The leather here is not animalic but dry and clean, pushing the rose toward a more austere register than it would occupy alone. Vetiver and patchouli in the base contribute earth to the amber foundation, and the overall drydown is warm, slightly smoky, and definitively unisex in its effect.
Why We Carry This
Beast Love is the most architecturally interesting of Montale's recent pepper-led compositions. The decision to introduce leather alongside the rose in the heart rather than reserving it for the base gives the mid-stage a seriousness that the opening's spice suggests but most releases in this family do not deliver.
