Empathy is The House of Oud doing something unexpected: leading with floral fruit and arriving at a spruce-oud base without the transition feeling forced. Andrea Casotti's use of artemisia in the opening is the structural choice that makes the tobacco-fruit heart coherent. A composition that rewards attention rather than a single first impression.

Pear blossom and raspberry bloom give Empathy an opening that is floral and fruity at once, artemisia adding a dry, herbaceous note that prevents the fruit from reading as candy. Tobacco appears in the heart alongside the raspberry, an unusual pairing that works because the fruit gives the tobacco sweetness and the tobacco gives the fruit depth. Spruce and oud in the base are cool and resinous, benzoin providing the warmth that holds the composition's disparate materials together at the finish.
