Gambling
Whiskey and coffee in the opening of Gambling are not the sweet, approachable versions of those notes. Sichuan pepper sharpens both into something dry and slightly austere, bergamot giving just enough brightness to the entry. Mastic, galbanum, and elemi resin in the heart are a resinous, green, and slightly bitter accord that reads as Mediterranean at its core. Vetiver and guaiac wood in the base are clean and smoky, cedar giving the finish a dryness that suits the name. This is a composition that does not seek approval.
Why We Carry This
Gambling is The House of Oud's most adventurous composition in terms of opening register. The whiskey-mastic-galbanum axis is not a commercial construction, and the vetiver-guaiac base confirms the intent: this is a fragrance for the client who knows exactly what they want. The elemi resin in the heart is the detail that elevates it above simply being a smoky woody.
