Oud Minérale (2023)
Maisondieu took two materials that seem designed to repel each other, marine seaweed and oud, and found the register where they coexist. The opening is unmistakably aquatic: sea salt and seaweed with a brightness that pink pepper sharpens. Then the oud emerges, not the medicinal or barnyard oud of Middle Eastern tradition, but something compressed and almost mineral, balsam fir and ambergris giving it depth without sweetness. This is the Private Blend at its most structurally adventurous.
Why We Carry This
Oud Minerale is the most conceptually unusual fragrance in our Tom Ford selection. The marine-oud axis sounds improbable and wears as a revelation. Clients who find conventional oud fragrances too heavy find the seaweed opening gives the oud a lightness it cannot achieve on its own. Maisondieu's handling of ambergris in the base is what holds the composition together.
