Orris and cardamom in the opening are cool and spiced, neither note dominating before sandalwood takes the structural center of the composition. Patchouli and cedarwood give the heart a woody depth that is dry rather than dark, and benzoin with styrax in the base build a balsamic warmth that myrrh deepens further. Tonka bean rounds the finish into something polished and long.

Lustre is a collaboration between Rasquinet and Paul Guerlain, and their combined approach gives the sandalwood heart a clarity that most balsamic base compositions forfeit. The six-month aging makes the benzoin-labdanum drydown feel integrated rather than layered.
