Geza Schoen opens 1872 Men with an aromatic citrus burst that is genuinely complex from the first second: bergamot, lime, petitgrain, and grapefruit working together but not blending into mush. Lavender and rosemary thread through the top, and the pepper and nutmeg underneath keep things from reading as a simple cologne. Clary sage and jasmine carry the composition into the middle, giving it a softness that sits well against the spice. Virginia cedar and patchouli form the base, amber and labdanum rounding things out to something warm and authoritative. This opened in 2001 and has aged very well.
