Fig trees have a specific smell that most fig fragrances miss: not the fruit alone but the bark, the leaves, the milky sap that comes out when you break a branch. Diptyque understood this when they composed Philosykos in 1996, and the fragrance has been correct about figs ever since. It opens green and slightly sharp, the leaves and wood giving it a bite that softens as the creamy, ripe fig heart develops. The dry-down is cool and woody, almost powdery at the very end. It smells like being in an actual garden, not like someone's idea of one.
Why We Carry This
Philosykos is one of those fragrances that helped define what a fig fragrance could be, and thirty years on it still sets the standard. Diptyque's restraint here is almost perverse given how easy it would be to sweeten this into something more crowd-pleasing. We carry it because it is simply the best version of this idea that exists.
