Red Aoud
Red Aoud opens with oud and pepper, an assertive beginning that immediately establishes this as one of Montale's more austere compositions. Rose arrives in the heart with saffron and cumin, the spice-floral combination giving the oud a warm context before orris root adds a cool, powdery counterweight that keeps the dense materials from becoming oppressive. Sandalwood and vetiver in the base are earthy and dry, extending the oud-pepper opening into a close that is dark but wearable. The red in the name is the temperature, not the color.
Why We Carry This
Red Aoud is Montale at its most serious: the cumin-saffron-rose heart is a genuine study in how spice materials interact with oud in the warm register. The orris root provides the compositional intelligence that prevents the density from becoming heavy, and the vetiver base gives it a longevity that the fragrance's seriousness earns. One of the house's most uncompromising compositions.
