Apple and cardamom open together with a sweetness that smells expensive rather than saccharine, mandarin and bergamot lifting it before the lavender heart anchors the composition with real warmth. Guaiac wood and vanilla in the base give Layton Exclusif a depth the original lacks, pepper threading through to stop the amber from going purely sweet. It lasts, and it projects, which is what the Exclusif concentration is designed to do.

Hamid Merati-Kashani's higher-concentration rework is the version that converts skeptics. The guaiac wood and pepper base replace the original's softer finish with something that holds up through an evening.
