Why We Carry This
The cognac-tobacco-leather construction in The Blazing Mister Sam is Penhaligon's drawing on their 150-year London heritage without nostalgia: this smells like a living tradition rather than a museum piece. The vetiver base is excellently weighted, and the cognac opening has a genuine boozy warmth that synthetic alternatives cannot replicate.

The Blazing Mister Sam opens with cognac and bergamot, and it smells immediately like the interior of a very good club that has been operating long enough to have absorbed its habits into the furniture. Leather and tobacco arrive in the heart with the confidence of materials that have been used in this combination for over a century: neither is trying to impress, both are simply present. Sandalwood and vetiver in the base close things with a dry, woody earthiness that carries the cognac warmth through the entire drydown. Penhaligon's at their most unapologetically British.
