Hidden Shades opens with ginger and pink pepper establishing a dry, spiced brightness before incense and oud take over in the heart. Labdanum alongside the incense gives the mid-stage a resinous, balsamic depth that is characteristic of the house's darkest work. Patchouli and vetiver in the base are earthy and sustained, amber providing the warmth that binds the resinous heart to the drier base materials. Hidden Shades is aptly named: the complexity reveals itself gradually.

The incense-labdanum-oud heart is a layered structure that rewards wearing over multiple occasions as the nuances become familiar.
