What About Pop
What About Pop opens with popcorn and caramel alongside hawthorn, a combination that The House of Oud treats with genuine compositional seriousness rather than novelty. The popcorn note is warm and buttery, caramel deepening the sweetness, hawthorn adding a white floral brightness that keeps the opening from collapsing into pure confection. Night blooming cereus in the heart gives the composition an unusual floral darkness, Madagascar vanilla and whipped cream giving the sweet accord warmth. Ebony, benzoin, and Madagascar vetiver in the base are the serious materials that hold the playful opening in a lasting, genuinely complex drydown.
Why We Carry This
What About Pop is a test of whether a gourmand opening can be compositionally serious, and The House of Oud passes it. The night blooming cereus and ebony base materials give the popcorn-caramel opening a darkness that the vetiver then grounds in something genuinely earthy. The 2019 release remains one of the house's most unexpectedly sophisticated compositions.
